Fundacio Institut de Recerca de l’Energia de Catalunya

The Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) is a research institution under the trust of different governmental and private organizations.

The Chemical Energy Storage group has as main objective the development of materials, new concepts and technologies for future generation devices. Under this premise, one of the main lines of action is the CO2 circular economy and generation of alternative fuels by low temperature electrolysis, photo(electro)catalysis and thermocatalysis, in order to allow the interconnection of the distribution networks of energy: electric, gas and liquid fuels. The group is a member of European associations AMPEA JP Artificial Photosynthesis (Advanced Materials and Processes for Energy Applications) and EMIRI (Energy Materials Industrial Research Initiative) as well as the Spanish platform for CO2 conversion (PTE-CO2). The energy storage group will bring to the project its expertise in nanomaterials synthesis, materials growth and layer deposition; nanomaterials for catalysts; materials procedures and treatments; morphological and structural characterization tools and methods; and functional testing capabilities.
